Amina MWRC Public Statement: The Push on Channel 4

The Push: Murder On the Cliff true crime documentary released on Channel 4. Fawziyah Javed was one of many victims of domestic abuse. On a visit to Edinburgh, the 31-year-old lawyer, pregnant at the time, was tragically murdered by her husband, who pushed her from Arthur’s Seat.

Amina MWRC offered emotional support to Fawziyah’s family during the distressing time. Our CEO and IDAA caseworkers attended the High Court in Edinburgh during the ongoing case to represent our client base. Fawziyah was a Muslim & BME woman; she was a member of our community who was brutally killed. We held a candlelit vigil in her honour in Edinburgh in 2021 and will continue to remember Fawziyah and all victims of domestic abuse. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, especially Yasmin Javed, the mother of Fawyziah who has tirelessly fought for justice for her daughter.

Amina MWRC remains committed to supporting Muslim & BME women in Scotland by delivering culturally-sensitive support. Our free & confidential Helpline operates Monday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm. In addition to our Helpline, we provide an Alima service for Islamic Advice every Tuesday from 10 am to 2 pm, Telephone Befriending for socially isolated women, a Legal Immigration Clinic, Sahara Scotland Domestic Abuse Casework and Financial Advocacy.

Our services are tailored to the distinct needs of Muslim & BME women, and are available in multiple languages. For more information about our services, call Amina MWRC at 0141 212 8420, email info@mwrc.org.uk, or visit our website.
