Amina MWRC Public Statement: Islamophobia

27th February 2024

Amina MWRC is deeply concerned by the spread of Islamophobia nationwide. Following our recent Tweets, it is crucial to address the Prime Minister’s refusal to call out Islamophobia, particularly in response to Lee Anderson’s harmful remarks. Members of Parliament must be held to higher accountability as they are leaders within the community.

Since 7th October, there has been a spike in Islamophobic incidents, with over 2,000 attacks reported within the last five months (Tell MAMA Charity, 2024). The Conservative party must urgently address anti-Muslim sentiments and its pattern of ignoring Islamophobia. Our leaders must responsibly represent the needs of their electoral constituents; they must ensure that they do not contribute to hateful discrimination, which impact 6.9% of the UK population who identify as Muslim (Office for National Statistics Census, 2021).

Amina MWRC is a third-party hate crime reporting centre. To report an incident or for support following an Islamophobic incident, please contact us online or call our Helpline, available from Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm at 0808 801 0301.
