International Women’s Day 2024: Inspire Inclusion

Happy International Women’s Day!

The theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is “Inspire Inclusion”. Amina – The Muslim Women’s Resource Centre (MWRC) empowers women by inspiring inclusion each day! We specialise in delivering and enabling women’s rights through free services for Muslim & BME Women in Scotland. This year, we’re sharing FAQs that we have received, including details about our services, information about the Amina MWRC office, and ways to donate to our Women’s Rights Organisation.

What is Amina MWRC?

Amina – The Muslim Womens Resource Centre (MWRC) is a third sector women’s rights organisation that helps to meet the needs of Muslim, Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) Women in Scotland. Muslim & BME Women have unique needs to address the intersect of gendered, racial and religious barriers that deter them from participating in society and living safe lives.

What Services Does Amina Offer?

As a women’s rights organisation, we offer a range of FREE services for Muslim and BME Women in Scotland:

  1. Violence Against Women & Girls Prevention
  2. Confidential Helpline & Befriending Services
  3. Domestic Abuse and Financial Advocacy
  4. Employability Workshops and Courses
  5. Creative Wellbeing & Sports Activities in Glasgow and Dundee.

Am I Eligible for Amina’s Services?

Yes, if you are a Muslim or BME Woman in Scotland. If you do not meet this criteria but are seeking advice, call our Helpline and we’ll be happy to refer you to another organisation that specialises in your needs.

How is Amina Celebrating International Women’s Day 2024?

The Amina Team is hosting and attending a number of events, in addition to sharing content this International Women’s Day:

  • On 7th March 2024, our Helpline Team hosted Women Empowering Change: Menopause & Spirituality, our exclusive women’s day event for Muslim women in Scotland. The session was the second of our two-part series of free sessions on Women’s Menstrual Wellbeing, following the Seasons Within. The session featured a doctor and female Muslim Scholar, both of whom delved into frequently asked questions regarding Menopause and Spirituality. The event was a big hit with an exceptional turn out – thank you to everyone who attended!
  • Today, on 8th March 2024, our Glasgow Women’s Friendship Group visited the Glasgow Science Centre. The Women’s Friendship Group is a safe space for women to connect, create, and learn. This visit was conducive to inspiring our group of women, and helping them to view the world in a unique way.
  • In light of this year’s theme, our Employability Project Co-ordinator, Nosheen Ahmed, also wrote an inspiring blog post for Engender Scotland on Women, Scotland, and Inclusion. Read the full blog post here.
  • Our Board Member Elisa Sajed attended the “Feminists for a Free Palestine” session at George Square. While speaking of women’s rights and wellbeing, it is crucial to highlight the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian women.
  • Finally, our team members represented Amina at the Wise Group International Women’s Day Event, held in Glasgow today. The purpose of the event was to lower access thresholds to information, services, and communities for women in the asylum system.
