Public Statement: Solidarity with Minority Ethnic Women Against Misogyny and Racism

Amina MWRC is horrified by the recent report of a Sikh woman in Oldbury who was raped and racially abused. This brutal attack is a stark reminder of the violence that is continuously directed towards Minority Ethnic women, who are too often targeted at the intersection of racism and misogyny.
Only days earlier in East Renfrewshire, a Muslim schoolgirl was verbally attacked while walking home from school; another shocking reminder of how unsafe our communities can be for women and girls of colour.
These are not isolated incidents. The rise in racism, Islamophobia, and online hate is fuelling hostility that spills into our streets and homes, putting Minority Ethnic women at higher risk. We must take action beyond condemnation. Authorities should act swiftly to ensure accountability and the wider society must stand up to challenge all forms of hate. No woman should live in fear because of their faith, ethnicity or gender.
If you or someone you know is affected, please contact our Helpline at 0808 801 0301, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm. In addition to being a Hate Crime reporting centre, we also provide confidential, culturally sensitive support to Muslim and Minority Ethnic women in Scotland.
We must stand in solidarity with Minority Ethnic women, amplify their voices and work together for a society where every woman can live safely with dignity.
