Public Statement: Call for a Permanent Ceasefire

Amina MWRC is deeply concerned by the ongoing violence against women and girls in Gaza.

It is the month of Ramadan, a Holy month of peace when Muslims fast during the day and engage in worship at night. This year many people are finding it difficult to focus on anything other than the ongoing escalating crisis in Palestine. In the last 5 months, over 32,000 Palestinians have been killed, and the media has highlighted endless accounts of sexual assault and violence on women and girls.

The incident of a 5-month pregnant woman being raped with her family forced to watch at gunpoint. Despite this torture, the soldiers murdered her and her unborn child.

Soldiers photographing themselves against the backdrop of dead Palestinian women’s lingerie.

Reports of Palestinians being forced to leave Khan Younis Hospital naked.

Women being stripped and searched at gunpoint.

Today, we call on our fellow women’s rights groups to advocate for women’s rights, and not fail Palestinian women and girls in being silent in the face of their suffering. We must come together to oppose the human rights violations happening each day in Palestine. Let’s amplify our voices against the sexualisation and abuse of women and girls – Israel must end this brutal massacre.

Amina MWRC welcomes the long awaited adoption by the UN Security Council for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the month of Ramadan, but we need this ceasefire to be permanent. We have witnessed 171 days of genocide – all lives are precious, regardless of gender or ethnicity. We call for an end to the abuse and sexual violence against all women and girls in Palestine and Israel.

We stand against the apartheid. Ceasefire Now.
