Amina’s Employability Project offers a range of support to Muslim and BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) women across Scotland. The project aim is to empower and support women to access, gain, and sustain paid employment, volunteering, training, and learning opportunities. We do this in a couple of different ways:
Employability One-to-One Support and Group Workshops
Funded by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), this programme provides women with tailored one-to-one support from Employability Project Officer Ambreen. In appointments with Ambreen, women set the agenda depending on what they need and are interested in. This could be help identifying and applying for job opportunities, practicing interview techniques, updating a CV, finding college courses, or general advice about starting or returning to work. Whatever the issue, the Employability team is here to help find the right support for you.
As well as one-to-one appointments, the Employability programme offers group workshops for women interested in topics like understanding the Scottish job market, preparing a CV, and what to expect from the workplace. All our Employability work is uniquely culturally and faith sensitive: we understand the experiences and needs of Muslim and BME women in Scotland and are here to uplift and empower them.

Also funded by CAF, our Volunteer Development Programme supports Muslim and BME women in Glasgow to find out about and access volunteering. Led by Volunteer Development Officer Usma, the programme offers a combination of:
- one-to-one appointments to help women identify their interests and what they’re hoping to get out of volunteering
- group workshops that inform women about volunteering, what it means, and the opportunities and organisations in Glasgow

ESOL (English as a Second or Other Language) Classes
Amina, together with our ESOL tutor Sonya, run two ESOL classes:
- a beginners class at 10:30 AM every Thursday
- an intermediate/advanced class at 12:30 PM every Thursday
Both classes are run over Zoom and are completely free to attend thanks to funding from the Adult Learning and Empowering Communities Fund (ALEC).

If you don’t have access to an internet-enabled device, Amina might be able to help! We offer a small tablet/laptop loan scheme for women in Scotland accessing Amina programmes. Chai Time, led by staff member Asma, is a fortnightly social space for Muslim and BME women in Scotland to get together in a safe, fun, and friendly environment to practice conversational English and make new friends.
