Influenced Podcast
Influenced is our podcast exploring violence against women and girls (VAWG) through the lens of Muslim and Minority Ethnic women’s experiences in Scotland. Each episode unpacks how misogyny, honour-based abuse, and other forms of gendered violence manifest within communities, and how cultural and religious narratives are sometimes misused to justify harm. Through conversations with survivors, families, activists, and experts, we shine a light on the realities often overlooked in mainstream discussions. Our aim is to challenge harmful influences, amplify voices from minority communities, and explore pathways toward safety, justice, and change.
Influenced is more than just a podcast. It’s a platform for raising awareness and collective action against gendered violence.
Influenced Podcast Episode 1: Misogyny Explained
In the first episode of our Influenced podcast, we explore misogyny and its impact on Muslim and Minority Ethnic women in Scotland. In recent years, society has witnessed the rise of prominent misogynistic influencers and celebrities, fuelling harmful trends of abuse and manipulation.
Mariam Ahmed, CEO of Amina MWRC, joins us to discuss how misogyny is deeply ingrained within communities, and how some men misinterpret religion and culture to justify abuse. Together, we examine the changes needed to promote safety and support for women across Scotland.
