Conditions of service for this post include the following:

  • 35 hours per week.
  • Initially until March 2026 (likely to be extended, subject to further funding)
  • Annual leave of 37.5 days per annum - pro rata (inclusive of public holidays)
  • Defined contribution pension scheme based on employer contributions of 5% plus additional employee contributions

  • Working hours may include evening and weekend work on occasion, if required, for which time off in lieu will be awarded in agreement with line manager

Women's Rights Caseworker (Scotland-wide)

Background 

Amina MWRC is a national organisation that works with Muslim and Minority Ethnic (ME) women in Scotland by giving them opportunities to have their voices heard and to improve their skills and become more confident in participating in their own communities and at a wider level.  

The women’s rights caseworker will be passionate about women’s rights and empowerment. The caseworker will provide much needed support for ME and Muslim women with complex needs in distress or crisis, which may have been further exacerbated by the pandemic.  

Membership of the PVG scheme is a requirement for this post and will be applied for after successful completion of the recruitment process. 

The project has the following core aspects to its work:  

To provide confidential support, assistance, and information to women who are: 

  1. Experiencing or at risk of domestic abuse.  
  2. Women experiencing Forced Marriage, Honour Based Abuse and barriers due to immigration control.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Support cases and complex calls referred from our multilingual confidential helpline.  
  • Provide support to women by phone or at the Amina Glasgow office, or other suitable safe spaces, where necessary.   
  • Contact or signpost to relevant agencies and advocate for women where needed to help women receive the relevant support.  
  • Provide effective and high-quality advocacy that enables women to access information about their options and how to exercise their rights, following recognised good practice. 
  • Liaising with statutory and voluntary services when required ensuring that women’s needs are comprehensively addressed. 
  • Provide crisis management to women affected by domestic abuse with a comprehensive and holistic approach. 
  • Monitor, evaluate, support and write regular reports for funders, Project Manager, CEO and Board of management as and when required, in relation to the project. 
  • Maintain databases and accurate records of all work carried out and undertake any other relevant administrative duties. 
  • The completion of reports and case studies as requested by your line manager and in compliance with the funding requirements, ensuring reporting deadlines provided are met. 
  • Actively participate in staff and other Amina MWRC meetings as required; participate in support and supervision meetings with the line manager; 
  • Contribute to the development of teamwork plans and implementation of work plan; 
  • Any other duties in line with this post as directed by the line manager. 

Person Specification: Women’s Rights Caseworker  

The following requirements will be assessed from a combination of information provided from your CV and statement, the interview process, and references:

4. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people     
5. Ability to listen in a non-judgemental way and demonstrate empathy     
6. Ability to build effective relationships with clients, work in ways that empower and encourage participation of women, develop a supporting relationship with women within professional boundaries       
7. Able to work as part of team, lone work and use your own initiative     
8. Commitment to supporting women and women’s rights      
9. Experience of using evaluation and monitoring tools and techniques, keeping updated records of work undertaken, and writing reports for funders     
10. A working knowledge of how to support people from different equality streams e.g., varying disabilities, gender identities, sexuality, race, religion, age; as well as women with either mental health issues, domestic abuse support or women with no recourse to public funds   

 

 
11. Ability to provide support in any of the community languages, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Arabic or Swahili.      
12. Hold an  Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate (IDAA) accreditation or be willing to work towards achieving it within an agreed timeframe     
13. Flexible and available to support evening and weekend shifts when emergency cases arise

Amina MWRC Background Information 

 About Us 

Amina is an award-winning organisation, recognised by Muslim communities and key partners within Scotland for its pioneering and responsive approach to addressing key issues and needs of Muslim and minority ethnic (ME) women. 

Having invested in this specialist area where there was previously a gap in services in Scotland, Amina is recognised as the national hub for gaining access to, and consulting with Muslim and ME women across Scotland. The organisation has been instrumental in initiating and tailoring services to meet the needs of Muslim and ME women to ensure that they are able to fully participate in society without fear of discrimination or inequality. 

Founded on the principles of community development, our work is underpinned by community empowerment, participation and partnership working. Vital to creating a fairer Scotland for all, is our engagement work with Muslim and ME women to ensure their voices are able and empowered to contribute to national policies and that mainstream agencies, government bodies and policy makers have an informed understanding of barriers preventing Muslim and ME women from accessing services and participating in society. 

The Organisation 

Amina - the Muslim Women’s Resource Centre opened to the public in April 2002. It held its official opening on 1st November 2002. 

Staffing currently consists of CEO; Helpline Programme Manager, Helpline & Casework Officers & Administrators; Violence against Women & Girls Coordinator & Officer; Employability & Financial Advocacy Programmes Manager; Employability Project Officer; Financial Advocacy Caseworker; Training and Engagement Officer; Dundee Creative Wellbeing Project Officer; Fundraising Coordinator; Communications Officer; Executive Assistant; Glasgow & Dundee Administration Officers & Office Manager. 

Funding comes from a range of sources including the Scottish Government, Volant Trust, Glasgow City Council, Henry Smith, partnership agreements, as well as fundraising and individual donations. 

Amina - the Muslim Women’s Resource Centre is managed by an elected voluntary Board of Directors. It is registered as a charity with OSCR – Charity no. SC027690 and Company limited by Guarantee registered in Scotland no: SC432921.
