Conditions of service for this post include the following:

Job Description

Background
Amina - The Muslim Women's Resource Centre is a national organisation which works with Muslim and Minority Ethnic (ME) women by creating opportunities for them to have their voices heard, to improve their skills, and to become more confident in participating in their own communities and at a wider level.
The Financial Advocacy Caseworker will provide direct, specialist support to Muslim and Minority Ethnic women who are survivors of domestic abuse, with a particular focus on those experiencing or at risk of financial and economic abuse.
The successful applicant will work to deliver intensive individual and family centred support that enables women to have the skills that allow them to cope better financially. This includes assessing welfare benefit entitlement; providing budgeting assistance; improving financial management; providing information on benefits and helping clients to apply; applying for hardship grants; and engaging with statutory bodies with women who need support, including multiple or coerced debts.
This service will be provided through a mixture of in-person meetings in our Glasgow office, over the phone, and via online video calls. There may be occasional travel required within the city or other parts of Scotland to partnership organisations/ agencies.
The Financial Advocacy Caseworker will work closely with the wider Amina staff, especially our Helpline and Domestic Abuse Casework team. The post holder will take referrals from the Helpline team, as well as making referrals to them and other services within the organisation. The Financial Advocacy Caseworker will work together with the Helpline team to administer Amina’s Hardship Fund, which provides short term emergency financial relief to women across Scotland.
Membership of the PVG scheme is a requirement for this post and will be applied for after successful completion of the recruitment process.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one, trauma-informed advocacy to women experiencing financial abuse and domestic abuse.
- Undertake assessments to maximise financial support for families;
- Connect women experiencing fuel poverty with organisations and initiatives providing energy advocacy/ advice;
- Support women and families experiencing food crisis to food referral gateways/ food banks and other poverty tackling initiatives;
- Assist women and families to apply for urgent assistance grants, including Amina’s Hardship Fund;
- Work together with Amina colleagues and partner organisations to provide women information and opportunities to progress along financial inclusion pathways;
- Provide advice and ongoing case support for clients through appropriate digital channels such as telephone, webchat, and email as well as face-to-face, including identifying when women need more intensive support and may benefit from referrals to another organisation or team within Amina;
- Run awareness sessions (face to face and online) about support services to enable women to emerge from household poverty;
- Establish referral systems with key organisations as a way of reaching more women who need support in relation to poverty and financial exclusion;
- Work closely with Amina’s Helpline, Domestic Abuse Casework, Employability, and Wellbeing teams to ensure holistic support.
- Collaborate with external agencies, including Police Scotland, MARACs, housing providers, and legal services, to strengthen safety and financial outcomes for survivors.
- Provide case insights to inform Amina’s DES-funded campaigning, training, and awareness-raising.
- Accurately monitor and record the work of the project, working together with the Project Manager to ensure that our funded outcomes are being met;
- Write timely reports and support line managers in the writing of funding applications;
- Ensure women using the service are supported to continually shape the work of the project by providing feedback and insight into what works well for them;
- Actively participate in staff and other Amina MWRC meetings as required; and participate in support and supervision meetings with the line manager;
- Contribute to the development of teamwork plans and implementation of work plan;
- Any other duties in line with this post as directed by the line manager.
