Employability and Adult Learning
Women accessing our Employability and Adult Learning services face a variety of intersecting needs. Broadly, these can be separated into problems surrounding employment, debt, adult learning, and well-being. Many of our beneficiaries are navigating the complicated structures of benefits, job applications, and public services with English as a second or other language, while experiencing discrimination, or without any meaningful support from friends or family. The provision of these services is what makes the difference between women being able to escape cycles of poverty or crisis, and becoming further entrenched in them.
"I'm very excited for my new administrator role at a property management company. I'm very thankful to your team as I attended the volunteer programme and some ESOL sessions. It was very helpful in building my confidence."
ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) has long been a part of Amina’s work with communities across Scotland. ESOL classes are offered as a conversational online session for women to learn English. Our classes are completely free to access and run online via Zoom. Our ESOL classes use topics that learners and the broader community care about – life today in Scotland, civic participation, women’s rights – to teach the essentials of English language learning.
