
Winter 2024 Creative Well-Being Activities

Our Dundee Creative Well-Being programme hosts sessions at The Wellgate on Tuesdays (term time) from 10am to 2pm. Our recent activities have been full of learning, connection, and new friendships. New women have joined us from Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, Syria, Yemen, Bulgaria, India, and Pakistan. Tuesdays are a hub of cultural exchange and community support!
Health and Wellbeing
The Health & Well-Being strand focuses on enhancing women’s well-being through sessions and activities that build awareness of good health practices. Our recent activities have been outlined below:
- Health Check Sessions – NHS Tayside Health Check sessions delivered by the Health Inclusion Nurses provide essential health information to women through 1-1 tailored appointments.
- Bladder & Pelvic Health Workshop – Informative sessions delivered by Dr Sadaf and Dr Shehla at the V&A Dundee.
- Self-Care Workshop – In collaboration with Penumbra, this session offered tools and strategies for women to better maintain positive mental health.
- Weekly Walking Group – Back by popular demand, our weekly walking group promotes physical and social well-being.
- Basketball Programme – Delivered in partnership with Sport Scotland and Active Schools, led by sports leader Sara Naveed. Over 22 participants aged 14-26 joined the weekly sessions!
Skill Share
For the term, our focus for Skill Share has been language and literacy. Our sessions broadly drew on this theme:
- English on the Couch – Weekly sessions aimed at building confidence in speaking English, tailored for Muslim & BME women.
- Little Readers, Mighty Leaders – A literacy workshop inspiring young minds, featuring author Maryam Yousaf.
- Write Your Story – A powerful writing workshop by Maryam Yousaf, encouraging women to unlock their creativity while expressing their identity.
- Amanah Mobile Library Pop-Up – We were delighted to welcome the Amanah Mobile Library Service in our Creative Well-Being space for women in Dundee.
Arts and Culture
Our Arts and Culture activities included a variety of enticing and thought-provoking engagements:
- Journal-Making Workshop – In partnership with How It Felt, the session fostered self-expression through creative journal design.
- Candle Decorating – a relaxing activity that was delivered by How It Felt.
- DCA Film Viewing: No Other Land – A thought-provoking screening of the award-winning documentary at the DCA.
Community & Awareness
This term, we engaged in a number of community and awareness sessions, including:
- Energy Saving Workshop – An informative session with practical advice on reducing energy bills and keeping homes warm.
- GenAnalytics Research Session – Facilitated for women over 50, the session contributed to Scottish Government research on ageing and the impact on BME communities.
