What Does Amina Do?
Amina MWRC provides support and resources for Muslim and BME women in Scotland. BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) and Muslim women face many barriers in society, from healthcare to housing, making them one of the most disadvantaged groups in the UK. We operate as an intersectional charity, acknowledging that many Muslim and BME women are discriminated against on multiple levels including ethnicity, gender and religion. Our organisation provides help, advice and support to enable Muslim and BME women to access opportunities and live the life they deserve.
Amina advocates for women and provides support on a variety of topics including immigration law, domestic violence, employment and adult learning. You may contact our helpline at 0808 801 0301 for the following services:
- Helpline Service: The Amina Helpline provides support and advocacy for all Muslim or BME women in Scotland that needs help – 10am – 4pm, Monday to Friday.
- Telephone Befriending: For those experiencing loneliness or who need a listening ear, the befriending service can help – 10 am – 4 pm, Monday to Friday. Referral form available here.
- Immigration Law Clinic: Legal advice and help for immigration or visa issues – the last Wednesday of each month, 1pm – 4pm.
- Specialist Clinics: Advice on rights of Muslim women by an Alima (Islamic scholar) – Tuesdays, 10am – 2pm.
In 2023, we also launched our newest service:
- Sahara Scotland Casework & Advocacy Service: We provide one to one support for women experiencing domestic abuse or those at risk, women with mental health struggles, or insecure immigration status. Referral form available here.
Alongside our Helpline and Casework Services, we also focus on Employability, Adult Learning, Creative Wellbeing, and various Violence Against Women and Girls prevention campaigns such as our recent Domestic Abuse Awareness Campaign.
