Dundee Creative Well-Being Creative Arts
Engaging in shared creative activities helps us to relax, while building skills and confidence and forging social connections.
We work with a wide range of local partners to offer diverse opportunities for Muslim and Minority Ethnic women to access and explore creative arts, both within our sessions and through visits to art venues, theatre and other cultural spaces in and around Dundee.
On this page we tell you about some of the things that we have done in our sessions.
Creative Arts
How It Felt X Amina
We have an ongoing partnership with How It Felt (HiF), who focus on supporting mental health and wellbeing through creative projects. Through workshops facilitated by HiF, our women tried out a range of creative activities, from paper bead making and crochet to clay work, upcycling furniture, and sketching in nature.
The group have also had the opportunity to join trips to local cultural spots, including Dundee Rep Theatre, Botanic Gardens and McManus Galleries.
Surrounding
As part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, How It Felt led a series of sessions on the theme “Comfort and Disturb”.
The women created artworks using fabric, thread, clay, furniture and other materials to explore the idea of comfort zones, reflect on how we seek comfort in times of distress, and consider how our mental health and wellbeing is impacted by our everyday environments.
The project culminated in a stunning exhibition showcasing the women’s work within a “living-room” setting, further exploring the sometimes unclear distinctions between comfort and unease.
Tapestry Sessions
In partnership with Dundee Tapestry Muslim & ME women learned to stitch and weave, to contribute to a panel that tells stories about Dundee and its rich history. The women stitched the Ninewells Panel over a series of sessions helping them to bond and build a sense of community. The Dundee Tapestry was displayed at V&A Dundee until April 2025.
Quilling Sessions
A service user delivered quilling sessions to her peers. She was appreciative of the support Amina offered and continues to volunteer and support creative sessions.
